ICOI Study Guide
An “Intermediate Course on Islam(ICOI 2009)” was organized by Kowloon Masjid Dawah Committee as a follow up of the Elementary course(ECOI) successfully completed last month.
There were all together 8 sessions conducted during 6 June to 25 July 2009. Topics included: “Evidence of Creation and the attributes of the Creator”, “Role of Man on Earth – story of Adam”, “Analysis of Muhammad’s Prophethood and collection of Hadith”, “Jesus in Islam”, “Islam and Mass Media “, “Palestine issues “, “Islam and Economy”, “Selected studies of Al-Qur’an: Chapters 1,5,103,112”.
The response turned out to be very encouraging. A total of 27 registered. The average rate of attendance was 24.7. All of them were awarded the certificate of attendance as their attendance rate were all above 70%.
In general, the time of lecture for each session was comparatively longer than ECOI so that the speaker can have more time to elaborate their content. And the time spent on Q&A was longer so that all the participants can have enough opportunity to seek clarification from the speaker. Group discussion was cancelled.
Teaching materials, including PowerPoint and lecture notes, were also put on-line after each session at http://www.islam.org.hk/ICOI_2009/ . Further reading materials were also provided for those who want to make further studies on the subject.
Questionnaires were set to collect feedback of each session for reference of the speakers.
A closing ceremony was held on the last session. The honorable guests present were Imam Sulaiman Wang, Br. Matin Farooqi, and Br. Sultan. Br. Matin Farooqi, Chairman of Kowloon Masjid Dawah Committee made a short remark to encourage the participants and thanked the efforts of the speakers and helpers. Certificates of attendance were presented by the honorable guests. Some of the participants were also requested to make their feedback on the course. A tea reception was organized after the ceremony.
Alhumdulillah, two of the participants, Br. Iqram Mo and Sr. Sofia Tang made their shahadah in the hand of Imam Nohu, with Br. Matin Farooqi and Imam Sulaiman Wang as witnesses right after the closing ceremony of the ICOI.
