The People of Hong Kong, Stand Up for Peace and Justice

(11th Jan, 2009, Hong Kong ) Israel¡¯s stack on Gaza since 27th Dec, 2008 had brought more than 800 casualties with more than another 3000 injured, in which more than one third are innocent children, and the remains are all students and civilians who took refuge from schools run by the United Nations. In witness of these numerous and continuous killing and suffering of innocent people, regardless young and old, as a global citizen, we bare the responsibility to voice out our demand. We strongly urge the government of Israel to stop violence of all kinds promptly, and to withdraw from Gaza. They should stop blockage on borders in letting the needies to access humanitarian assistance from international voluntary organizations, and giving ample room for UN to seek resolutions for the conflicting parties.

Leaders of various nations should be responsible and take more initiatives to seize this crisis, and to assist to ensure a positive Israel-Palestine diplomacy. We believe that the UN should be legitimated and be granted with more authority to seize conflict with just and effective means.

On these behalf, we pledge the people of Hong Kong to join us as peace makers. The more we hesitate, the more the innocence suffer. Many people in South East Asia, Europe, Middle East, North and Latin America, or even some Jewish groups had already voiced out their discontentment. We should no longer be indifferent. The people of Hong Kong, what makes you hesitate?

This protest is organized by two students of the University of Hong Kong, Felix Lam and Christopher Ma, and promptly echoed by people of all walks of life, and with different social and cultural background. The concern group ¡°PEACE AID¡± is established to host this event.

It was estimated that over 3,000 attend the protest and marched from Victoria Park to US Embassy in central. A protest letter was handled over to the representative of the Embassy.
